Welcome

Spring Forward to These New Ideas

It’s great to plan a bridal shower or other party this time of year. Everyone is looking forward to Spring. So, take advantage of this feeling, and incorporate it into your plans.

Ideas for hosting a Spring Fling (or garden party) Think about the following to get yourself in the mood:
Warmer weather
April showers
Birds singing
Trees blooming
Scent of fresh flowers
Longer days

Start with your invitations. How about putting all the info on a large label, then sticking it to the back of a pack of garden seeds?

Decorate with pastel colors…pale pink, blue, yellow and lavender. You may want to use lace tablecloths. Centerpieces are fresh flowers in clear vases, terra cotta pots, or watering cans. Mini flowerpots, with a single flower and name tag, can be placed at each guest’s seat. This can be used as their take-home favor.

Serve a colorful drink:
Pink Punch --- Serves 20
• 1/2 gallon pink lemonade
• 1 liter lemon-lime soda
• 1/2 gallon raspberry sherbet
• Lemon or orange slices
• Fresh or frozen raspberries
Combine pink lemonade and soda in a large bowl. Add half of the sherbet. Stir until you have a rich, frothy mixture. Add scoops of sherbet on top. Float orange or lemon slices, and raspberries on top, for additional flavor and color.

Tea sandwiches are an easy and elegant idea. Try the following, or come up with your own ingredients.
Cucumber Sandwiches • 1 loaf white or wheat bread
• 16 oz. cream cheese, softened
• 1 large cucumber or 2small
• garlic salt
Pare the cucumber, then slice lengthwise. Remove the seeds. Cut in pieces, and put in the blender. Pour into mixing bowl. Add cream cheese. Add a little garlic salt to taste. Remove crusts from bread. Spread cucumber mixture onto bread to make sandwiches. Cut into triangles or use cookie cutters to obtain themed shapes. 20 slices will make 40 tea sandwiches

Chicken Salad Sandwiches with Almonds
Spread:combine-
• 3/4 cup butter
• 2 teaspoons lemon juice
• pinch of salt
• 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, or 2 tablespoons dried basil.
Filling:
• 1 cup finely chopped cooked chicken meat
• 1/2 cup mayonnaise
• 1/2 cup slivered almonds
• Salt and pepper to taste
20 slices bread, your choice of wheat or white.

Combine all filling ingredients. Spread a thin layer of the butter mixture on each slice of bread. Put the filling on half of the bread slices and top with the other half. Make sure the buttered sides face inward. Remove the crusts and cut the sandwiches as desired. Makes 40 tea sandwiches.

What’s for Dessert?
Individual Strawberry Shortcakes: This simple dessert is always a crowd pleaser.
• Individual sponge cakes, or pound cake you can slice
• Fresh Strawberries
• Whipping cream or Cool Whip
Start by slicing pound cake, or use individual cakes.
Add a generous portion of strawberries
Top with whipped cream

Music playing softly, in the background, will enhance this theme. You may also want to try some of the Nature Sounds available.
