Fiesta Theme Party Ideas

Plan your bridal shower or other party around a Fiesta. Cinqo de Mayo parties have become very popular. It doesn't have to be the fifth of May to enjoy this theme. So, let's see how to incorporate this festive feeling into your plans.

Ideas for hosting a Fiesta Theme Party
Think about the following to get yourself in the mood:
Bright colors
Festive music
Spicy food
Dancing

Start with your invitations. Choose maracas, sombreros, or a Margarita design, to excite guests about your happy theme

Decorate with lively colors…bright red, blue, yellow, orange, and green. You may want to use serapes as tablecloths. Centerpieces are bright flowers in terra cotta pots. Hang colorful balloons, and piniatas. A Margarita glass or fiesta theme candle can be placed at each guest’s seat. This can be used as their take-home favor. See a variety of theme items at:

Serve a colorful drink:
Margarita
Margarita Ingredients
1 oz. of tequila
1/2 oz. of orange flavored liqueur
1 oz. fresh lime juice
Coarse or kosher salt
Lime wedge
Ice cubes
1.Rub the rim of the glass with lime, to moisten.
2. Dip the rim of the glass into the salt.
3. Put ice cubes in the glass.
4. Shake tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice in an ice-filled shaker.
5. Strain shaker contents into a cocktail glass.
6. Garnish with a slice of lime or lemon.
Serves 1
This is considered to be the most traditional of margaritas. There are many alternatives.

Snacks
Guacomole-serve this as asnack or appetizer, with tortilla chips.
3 small avocados
1 small onion minced
4 garlic cloves minced or pressed
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
3 T lemon juice
1 small jalapeño pepper, seeded
salt & pepper to taste
Put all ingredients in a food processor and mix. This serves 8, adjust as needed.

Tacos-use as part of a buffet or main meal
Seasoning Mix
2 teaspoons instant minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon crushed red peppers
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Tacos
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 - 1/2 cup water
soft and/or hard taco shells
Mix all the seasoning ingredients, and set aside. Brown the ground beef. Add seasoning mixture, and water. Bring to a boil, and then simmer for 20-25 minutes. Put in taco shell, and let guests add toppings.
Toppings
lettuce, shredded
cheddar cheesed, shredded
onion, chopped
tomatoes, chopped
hot sauce (optional)
Recipe serves 4.

Side Dish
Mexican Rice
1 T vegetable oil
1 lg onion, chopped
1 C long-grain rice, uncooked
1 (28 oz) can stewed tomatoes
1/2 med sweet green pepper, chopped
1/2 med red bell pepper, chopped
2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 C water
Heat oil in a large skillet. Saute onion and rice for 5 minutes, until rice is evenly browned, stirring frequently. Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix well. Cover the rice. Simmer until tender, about 30 minutes. Remove lid. Cooking until all liquid is absorbed.
Serves 6

What’s for Dessert?
Peach Burritos
2 lg peaches, thinly sliced
4 (8-inch) flour tortillas
2 T butter or margarine
cinnamon, to taste
2 T brown sugar, or to taste
Put peach slices in a row, and place near center of tortilla. Fold the burrito like a diaper...up from the bottom first, then in from each side. Melt butter or margarine in a skillet. Place filled tortillas in the skillet, and cook 4 to 5 minutes, turning once. Cook till golden brown. Remove from pan and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Serves 4
